From the Farm to Community Tables

June 10, 2020

Dairy Month is a time to celebrate all things dairy, including dairy heroes in our community.

The story of Sand Hill dairy started off over a decade ago with the vision of one man—Isidro Alves, his family, a small herd of dedicated cows and the dream to produce the most impossibly fresh dairy creations northern Nevada has ever tasted. Since then, their local milk and cheese have become favorites of families and restaurants alike.

Amid the strains of COVID-19, Isidro and his family wanted to help and give back to a community that has continually supported them.

He decided to open his farm in Fallon to give away two gallons of milk to each and every vehicle who drove out to the farm. The response was unexpected. “I had no idea there was such a need,” Isidiro said. He estimated 700 cars came through the farm and he gave away 1,400 gallons of milk. It gives a whole new meaning to ‘farm to table’.

Sand Hill Dairy has also donated milk to Bibo Freddo Gelato to help them make gelato to donate to the frontline healthcare workers at Northern Nevada Medical Center.

We are so thankful for Isidro and his family. They truly are Dairy heroes in our community.
