Adopt a Cow this School Year!

August 15, 2024

The “Adopt a Cow” program is now registering classrooms for the 2024-25 school year until September 15, 2024. This free program is a year-long, interactive learning opportunity giving students an inside look at what it’s like to be a dairy farmer in Nevada. Students will virtually interact with the calves and farmers who manage the operation.

Learn Cow Care from Farmer Tim of Cottonwood Dairy

Once your classroom is enrolled in the free “Adopt a Cow” program, you’ll be paired up with a calf from Cottonwood Dairy farm, a family owned and operated Nevada business going on four generations. Throughout the school year, classrooms will receive photos, videos, virtual chats, video tours and activity sheets allowing them to observe the growth of their calf. The program will also provide students with learning activities that’ll provide them with a deeper understanding of animal care from Farmer Tim and where their food comes from. Teachers who enroll in the Adopt a Cow program will receive an introductory update in the fall with details about their calf. Classrooms will receive bi-monthly updates, including suggestions on components of the Discover Dairy curriculum that teachers can incorporate into their virtual or in-person lesson plans.

You are eligible to sign up for the Adopt a Cow program if you…

  • Teach in a traditional classroom setting.
  • Are homeschooling your kids/family members/friends.
  • Run an after-school program.
  • Facilitate a library or 4-H program, or programs alike.
  • Have an agriculture program at your museum or kid’s center.
