Students at Sandy Miller help create an Essential Agreement in each of their classrooms at the beginning of each school year. In PE it is called the Fuel Up to Play 60 Agreement. The agreement allows us to focus on and discuss healthy choices for breakfast to serve as their fuel to be actively engaged during the school day. We also discuss the importance of being physically active every day and how it keeps our minds and bodies healthy and happy.
What improvements have you seen at your school?
We have seen a decrease in food waste during breakfast. Our school has also seen a 10% increase in milk consumption.
How do you plan to make this play last during the school year and beyond?
Being an agreement that is yearlong, it allows for us to revisit and refresh our students on the ideals of the Fuel Up to Play 60 program.
How did students and adults work together as a team?
This is the first year I have been able to recruit Student Ambassadors to our team. We have been able to create posters promoting healthy eating choices, physical activity, and team member recruitment.
