Udder Nonsense

Black and White Cow Brown Cow

Dairy Month 2019

We’re sure you’ve heard the myths, rumors, and tall tales about dairy—like chocolate milk coming from brown cows (seriously)—but we’re here to tell you it’s udder nonsense!

So to set the record straight, we’re coming to you live from Sock Drawer Studios every week during Dairy Month with our Udder Nonsense segment.

Chocolate Milk

While this may seem absurd, it’s a lighthearted way to get to the truth of the matter, which is that many people are confused or uneducated about where their food comes from. Don’t be one of these people. Learn more, visit a farm, and teach your kids.

Sometimes it’s necessary for dairy farmers to work with veterinarians to treat their cows with antibiotics when they’re ill. However, milk from cows treated with antibiotics is discarded until the cow is off antibiotics and the milk tests clean, to be sure it’s 100% antibiotic free. Learn more about the strict standards and protocols.

Dairy Farming

Some people think dairy farming isn’t a science, but truth be told, dairy farming is actually very scientific. From what the cows are fed to milk quality testing to sustainable water use, dairy farmers use a lot of scientific research and processes. You can even get a Bachelors of Science in Dairy!

Acne is something no one wants to deal with, but the truth is, there are no clinical trials or conclusive evidence linking milk to acne. There are many factors that can contribute to acne and those factors increase exponentially based on each individual person. The most important thing you can do for your skin is eat a healthy, nutrient-rich diet.

Restaurant Partners

Our community is near and dear to our hearts, and an important part of our dairy success! We love working with local restaurants and providing them with local, Nevada-made dairy products straight from the farm. To highlight just how delicious dairy is, some of our local restaurant partners have created special, dairy-based dishes, just for dairy month! We'll be featuring a new dish each week. Be sure to stop in for lunch or dinner.

Your Local Dairy Farms

While Dairy Month is all about celebrating our favorite food group, it’s also about honoring and thanking our local dairy farmers who work hard day-in and day-out to bring delicious and nutritious dairy products to our stores, restaurants, and homes.
